Information About the Procedure and Policies
Non-Refundable Deposit
DVDP travels to veterinary hospitals with our staff and equipment, so last-minute cancellations create a unique problem for our practice. Therefore we take a $200 non-refundable Deposit to hold your appointment spot. A separate invoice will be sent to collect this. We ask that this is paid no less than 10 business days prior to your procedure (unless your appointment is scheduled less than 10 days in advance, then it is due at the time of scheduling). Failure to do this may result in the cancellation of your appointment. If you find that after you pay the deposit you need to reschedule the appointment, we can reschedule your appointment if notice is given 3 business days in advance. This $200 deposit will be applied to the balance of your total at the end of the surgery day.
Payments accepted include all major debit and credit cards, as well as wallet payment methods like Apple and Google Pay.
Week of the Procedure
There are 2 documents that need to be signed and returned before surgery. These will come to you no later than the Monday prior to your procedure.
The First is the "Treatment and Surgery Form". This will come to you by email. Please fill this out completely as it has alot of important information for you and your pet.
The second is the Estimate for Services. This will also come via email.
Night before instructions
The night before, your pet should have their regular meals. Food can be left down until Midnight but it should be taken up and we ask that pets have no food (including treats or chews) after midnight. Water is fine and can be given up until the appointment time.
We make every effort to make drop off as quick of a process for both of us, so we need these filled out prior to the beginning of the day. We will not be able to proceed until all paperwork has been received.
What to do on the morning of surgery?
Please give your pets their regularly scheduled medication on the morning of the procedure. If you find that you need a small amount of cream cheese or peanut butter to get pills in, this is fine but should be a small amount.
Please walk your pets before coming in for the day. Often patients are nervous and may not urinate or defecate for us while they are here creating a stay that is more uncomfortable than it needs to be.
If your pet has been prescribed any medications for anxiety for veterinary visits (Trazodone, Gabapentin, Alprazolam) we STRONGLY suggest that you give it the morning of the procedure. We want your pet as comfortable as possible. These medications will not affect our anesthetic protocol and will likely HELP your pet under anesthesia. Please make sure the Procedure check-in reflects what medications you will be giving.
Your pet will stay with us for the day. We make every effort to make the procedure as efficient as possible. You will receive a text as we are ready to start your pet's procedure and again when your pet is finished and in recovery. The doctor will follow up shortly thereafter with a call to go over the procedure. Please know we will call you with any problems so no news is good news.
You will pay for your procedure prior to pickup. The hospital where your pet is having the procedure cannot accept payment as this is done exclusively through DVDP. A separate invoice will be sent and needs to be paid prior to pickup of your pet. As with dropoff, we want to make this as quick of a process for all of us, especially your pet who will be VERY ready to go home and snuggle for the night.
What to expect after surgery?
Your pet will have discharge instructions that will explain what was done during the procedure and what your pet may experience afterwards. We try to anticipate their needs for a happy healthy recovery for you both. Staying home with your pet is rarely needed the day after surgery, but we encourage you to do whatever makes you feel comfortable. We will contact you the next day by email to ensure things are going as planned and again approximately one week later.
What happens if I have a problem after surgery?
DVDP will be available via email, phone or text Monday through Friday 9am-6pm. We are in procedures throughout the day, so we encourage you to text us (especially with pictures) if you have any questions for the fastest way to have your questions answered. Outside of that time if the issue cannot wait until DVDP is available, we ask that you visit your local ER or Urgent care. There are few issues from a veterinary Dental perspective that would fall into this category, but we try to be as available as possible for your needs.
Hopefully that is all. If you have any questions or concerns you can email us at info@delvetdental.com or call/text us at 302-463-2879.
